EBIKES & ESCOOTERS: KNOW THE RULES (Ordinance No: 25-26)
New regulations are now in effect for electric bicycles and electric scooters to improve safety for everyone.
WHAT’S ALLOWED
- E-bikes (Class 1, 2, & 3)
- Low speed e-scooters (max 20 mph)
AGE LIMITS
- E-scooters: 18+
- Class 3 e-bikes: 16+
WHERE YOU CAN RIDE
- Village streets posted 20 mph or less
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
- Front white light & rear red reflector/light (at night)
- Working brakes
- Manufacturer label (e-bikes)
- No sirens or whistles
PROHIBITED
- Riding under the influence
- Carrying passengers (unless designed)
- No hands-on handlebars
- Towing people or objects
PARKING
- Park like a bike—do not block sidewalks, ramps, driveways, entrances, hydrants, or ADA access.
FINES
- $100 first offense
- $250 second
- $500 repeat
THINGS TO REMEMBER
CURBSIDE COLLECTION (Code Reference: 7-2-2)
Refuse, yard waste containers/paper bags, and recycling bins:
- Place at the curb no earlier than 5:00 P.M. the day before collection.
- Remove no later than 8:00 P.M. on collection day
OVERNIGHT STREET PARKING
- Use the Front-Line application if overnight street parking is needed
- Street parking is not allowed if there is room in your driveway
SIDEWALK SAFETY (Code Reference: 9-2-3, Ordinance No. 25-16)
- Parking on sidewalks is prohibited
- Blocking more than 2 feet of a sidewalk is not allowed
- Enforced 8:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M
